A traditional Thai dessert featuring sweet sticky rice paired with ripe mango and a creamy coconut sauce. Perfect for a refreshing and satisfying treat.
Ingredients (5)
1 cup glutinous rice (also known as sticky rice)
1 ½ cups coconut milk
½ cup sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
2 ripe mangoes, peeled and sliced
Steps (5)
Prepare the Rice: Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 1 hour, then drain.
Cook the Rice: Steam the soaked rice in a steamer for about 20 minutes, or until tender and sticky.
Make the Coconut Sauce: In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat.
Mix the Rice and Sauce: Transfer the steamed rice to a large bowl. Pour about ¾ of the coconut sauce over the rice and mix well. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Assemble and Serve: Place a portion of the sticky rice on a plate, top with sliced mango, and drizzle with the remaining coconut sauce. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Additional tips
- Rice Type: Use glutinous rice for the best texture. If unavailable, you can use sushi rice as a substitute.
- Mango Selection: Choose ripe, sweet mangoes for the best flavor. Avoid using sour or unripe mangoes.
- Serving Suggestions: Garnish with toasted sesame seeds or mung beans for added texture and flavor.
- To make more: double the ingredients.
