Honey and Almond Cigars are a delightful Moroccan dessert made with crispy phyllo dough. This easy puff pastry dessert recipe combines a crispy pastry shell with a luscious honey and almond filling. Perfect for any gathering, this dessert offers a harmonious blend of sweetness and crunch.
Ingredients (7)
1 package of phyllo dough (thawed)
1 cup ground almonds
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup honey
1 tablespoon orange blossom water (optional)
Steps (6)
Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, mix the ground almonds, powdered sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
Prepare the Phyllo Dough: Lay out one sheet of phyllo dough and brush it lightly with melted butter. Place another sheet on top and brush with butter again. Repeat until you have 3 layers.
Add the Filling: Cut the layered phyllo dough into strips about 3 inches wide. Place a tablespoon of the almond mixture at one end of each strip.
Roll the Cigars: Fold the sides of the phyllo over the filling and roll up tightly to form a cigar shape. Brush the outside with more melted butter to seal.
Bake: Place the cigars on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
Add Honey: While the cigars are baking, warm the honey and orange blossom water (if using) in a small saucepan. Drizzle the warm honey over the baked cigars as soon as they come out of the oven.
Additional tips
- Keep Phyllo Dough Covered: Phyllo dough dries out quickly, so keep it covered with a damp cloth while working.
- Use Fresh Almonds: For the best flavor, use fresh, high-quality almonds.
- Serve Warm: These cigars are best enjoyed warm, right after baking.
